If you're trying to market everything you do, be on every social media platform, and appeal to everyone who might need you… STOP.
I get it.
When you're multi-passionate and good at a lot of things, narrowing your message can feel like you're leaving money on the table.
But here's the problem:
When you try to be everything to everyone, you can end up being memorable to no one.
If someone lands on your website or social media and can't quickly figure out what you do, who you help, and why they should care, chances are they're going to move on.
The good news? You don't need to throw away half your business or force yourself into some tiny little niche.
You simply need to make it easier for people to understand why they should come to YOU.
Here are five ways to do exactly that.
1. Get Crystal Clear on What You Want to Be Known For
You can do 15 different things behind the scenes.
Your potential client doesn't need to know all 15 of them when they first meet you.
Ask yourself:
What is the ONE thing I want people to immediately associate with my name?
That's your front door.
Once someone walks through that door, they can discover everything else you offer.
Being multi-talented is a strength. Marketing every talent equally is where things can get messy.
2. Create a One-Sentence Message People Actually Remember
If someone at a networking event asks, "So, what do you do?" and it takes you five minutes to explain it, we have a problem.
Try this:
I help [WHO] achieve [WHAT] through [HOW].
Keep it simple.
Your message doesn't need to explain your entire business. It needs to make the right person curious enough to say:
"Tell me more."
And here's an even better test: could someone you met yesterday accurately explain what you do to someone else today?
If they can, you're onto something.
3. Stop Giving People So Many Choices
More offers don't necessarily equal more sales.
Sometimes they equal more confusion.
If your website presents visitors with 12 services, six programs, three courses and four different buttons to click, they may choose the easiest option of all:
NONE OF THEM.
Give people a logical starting point.
Make it incredibly easy to understand:
This is what I offer.
This is who it's for.
This is what you'll get.
And THIS is what you should do next.
Don't make potential clients work hard to figure out how to give you their money!
4. Stop Trying to Be Everywhere
You do NOT need to be on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Pinterest AND hosting your own podcast just because some marketing guru told you that you should.
Go where your people are and where YOU shine.
Love speaking? Get booked on podcasts.
Great on camera? Create video.
Love writing? Build your authority through articles, LinkedIn and newsletters.
Fantastic in front of a room? Speak, teach and run workshops.
The best marketing platform isn't necessarily the hottest one.
It's the one where you can consistently show up, communicate your expertise and connect with the people you actually want to work with.
5. Let People See the REAL You
This one is HUGE.
With AI making it possible to create perfectly polished content in seconds, sounding like an actual human being has become a competitive advantage.
People don't hire logos.
They hire PEOPLE.
They want to know what you believe. They want to hear your stories. They want to experience your personality. And, most importantly, they want to know whether they can TRUST you.
That doesn't mean sharing every intimate detail of your life online.
It means letting your personality and point of view come through in your marketing.
And guess what?
Not everyone is going to like you.
GOOD!
You're not trying to attract everyone.
You're trying to attract the RIGHT people.
You Don't Need MORE Marketing. You Need More CLARITY.
Before you create another offer, join another social platform or spend another dollar trying to get more eyeballs on your business, ask yourself:
Can people immediately understand what I do?
Do they know who I help?
Do they understand why I'm different?
And is it ridiculously easy for them to take the next step?
Because becoming the go-to expert in your space isn't about shouting louder than everyone else.
It's about becoming clearer, more visible and more memorable to the people who matter.
Get Seen. Get Trusted. Get Paid.
That's how you stop trying to be everything to everyone—and start becoming the obvious choice for the people you actually want to serve.
